This is an easy city to get around, as it’s very compact, so exploring Madrid on foot is your best option. If you’re not up to walking then the quickest and easiest way to get around is by metro. Each line has a colour and number – it’s really straightforward and in our opinion part of the Madrid experience.

If you don’t fancy using the metro there are plenty of buses to hop on. These are always air conditioned, which is great. There’s even a night time bus service called Buhos – perfect for the night owls among you.

Taxis are usually in plentiful supply as well. If there’s a ‘libre’ sign, it means it’s available (free in Spanish).
