Plaza de Cibeles

Madrid
This well known square is one of Madrid’s most famous attractions and can be found in the Paseo de Rocoletos area of Madrid.

Many eye catching features can be found within the square, with the principal structure being the Palacio de Communicaciones. It was constructed as the centre of operations for the post office between 1905 and 1917 and designed by Antonio Palacios.

There is a museum located inside the building, which provides information on the history of the post office and how it worked. Another admired attraction within the Plaza de Cibeles is the fountain. It is an outstanding feature representing the Goddess of Fertility, Cibeles and was created between 1777 and 1782 and it is actually a very popular assembly point for football matches. The fountain features the Goddess being hauled by lions while she is sitting on a chariot.

Another fascinating attraction within the square is the Palacio de Linares, which contains an art display and a cultural centre and features an amazing façade and wonderfully designed hallways and stairs
