Temple of Depod

Madrid
Visitors are actually amazed to find a monument like this in Madrid. This is because the Temple of Depod was actually built in Egypt by the Roman Emperors Tiberius, Augustus and Hadrian!

It was built in the 4th century BC in memory of the Gods Isis and Amon. The reason for the monuments removal to Spain was because the Aswan High Dam was built between 1960 and 1970 and posed a great risk to the monuments and sites within the area. Because Spain helped in saving historical monuments like the Temples of Abu Simbel, Egypt donated the Temple of Depod as a way of saying thanks.

A lot of time and care was needed to move the temple to Madrid and therefore it was taken down stone by stone and then reconstructed in Madrid. It is now located in the tranquil park known as La Montana Park.

The monument consists of several chapels, fantastic drawings and inscriptions, a hall and terrace. It is bordered by magnificent gardens and is exceptionally striking during sunset.
